I noticed my old mtb hanging at the storage room. Pumped some air to the tyres and took it for a spin. Its even better than i remembered. I have now focus mtb and i have never liked how it drives. There is just something wrong with the geometry.
And now driving this again i remember how it should be. Even wheelies are just so balanced. The front just works. What is amacing is how comfortable the bike is even on rough roads. The cr-mo frame and front fork somehow absorbs the shocks totally different compared to modern aluminium frames. Also the speed is suprising. It goes fast with little effort. The frames hard springy like behaviour must have something to do with it.
The bike is mostly stock. Only saddle and handlebar has been changed. I have the original handlebar somewhere. It’s quite straight steel bar. Very light.
I bought this bike new. Year 1990. Or 1992 max.
It has shimano xt series hardware. Everything had worked even it has been not been maintained much. Just changed tyres when the old ones are worn out.
I doubt any suspended bikes could go on for 20years with so limited maintenance.
I have lost my switch army knife, maybe its somewhere , but i cannot find it. It was a wenger and was kinda bulky with too many blades. So I desided to buy a new one, but this time i knew what i needed. I need it to be light and narrow. And i need scissors. So i selected the compact model as it was the cheapest, lightest and narrow an has scissors.
I noticed it has a pen too. Other tools are stock victorinox style tools And its very light. Maybe 80 grams?
Time for speedy coolant change. Because there is no fairings it’s a quick job. Half hour or so.
Open the engine coolant drain plug.
Add new coolant. Squeeze the tubes. Lean bike for both sides and try to get the air out. Its good to check the level after some driving as it usually drops a bit.
And we got something. Perfect weather.
Time to change the oil. Last change was a year ago.
First dump the old oil.
Remove the filter and refill the new filter with fresh oil. Oil the seal too and clean the seal contact surface from the engine.
Comparison shows how much longer the new filter is. This gives more filter material. But makes the ground clearance a little bit smaller.
I have always used mobil 4t racing. It had worked ok and it is what triumph recommends.
I usually check the old filter by pressing.the flow back valve and draining the dirt from the filter. It usually has some metal flakes, but triumph has been very good and doesnt get flakes like many of my previous bikes had.
Now it needs just driving.
Oil pressure returned almost immediately as filter was prefilled.
Dad received new lathe. Made in china, but the firm overlooking the quality and giving it name is quantum. It has variospeed. So the speed can be adjusted from a knob.
I noticed a fun feature in s2. The cartoon photo taking. It uses only couple of colors for the image. So it looks like certain comic books.
Fun way to see everyday items in comic book style.
