Jim Rogers

I’ve read many Jim Rogers book. He had a real skill for storytelling and what is best he has the stories that need to be told. Like travels around the world twice!  also the insights for each country are amazing. He just can see where the country is heading.

Read anything he has written. The whole production is very readable.

Pursuit of less

http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2012/08/the_disciplined_pursuit_of_less.html

This article got me thinking. It’s really true that people are always searching for more and it leads to messiness. The complexity increases over time as new ideas and stuff are added on top of old ones.

Only solution is disciplined pursuit of less. You have to understand that systems and your life gets filled with unnecessary stuff. You have to let something go everytime you bring something new to your life. And the real question is always, do I really love this?

I have been motorcycle enthusiastic for a long time. Is this really what I love-Yes. It’s part of me. I have owned many bikes and usually people think that biker needs to own four bikes to be happy. This is not true. You need one bike you love. The more bikes you have will easily lead to disappointment, as you are driving one and thinking that you should have taken the other model. And when you are driving your car, the pain is just greater, because now there is many bikes undriven, not just one.

Last week I got nice deal on a scooter. I had been thinking for a long time that I have never owned a scooter, and it would be a good idea to own one. After reading the article I realized that ‘do I love this’- NO. This is not necessary, it’s just unnecessary weight on my life. I need to sell it. I have the motorcycle I need. I don’t need another two wheeled thing to separate my thoughts from that.

This is also true for other things too, I have some web sites and other projects that are really not needed. I have to clear those out of my life.

This same problem is also visible in all work related stuff. People want’ more and more stuff, Like automated stuff. But they never understand that it’s leading to unregulated pursuit of more. You just cannot do it. It’s going to weight on you and just going to cost time and money. Take one new thing in and let some old thing go.

Victorinox pioneer. Pocketknife perfection

Friend of mine visited Austria so I asked him to bring a pioneer knife.

Pioneer model is the ‘old’ soldier model that used to be issued to Switch soldiers starting from the 60’s(this model). If you compare it to the red regular switch knifes you notice that it’s little heavier build. The solid alox(aluminium oxide?) side plates make it stiffer and grippier. The knife blade is little bit bigger compared to red sided models.
The spring tension is little stiffer. You need little more strenght to open the blades. So for weak finger people the normal models like compact is better. Heavier spring tension also makes the blades to stay open better. Two line structure makes this knife super thin and you dont even notice it when it’s in your pocket.

Only thing i’m missing is the scissors. But it offers amazing value for the price. 26euros! Can’t beat that. Even chinese knifes can’t beat that. And you get qenuine Victorinox knife with superb quality and heritage.

Better man

Does watching beautifull things make you a better man? I’ve been thinking about it alot over the years. If one man watches concrete walls his whole life and his identical twin watches beatifull scenerys. What happens to these twins. Which one is a better man and how does it show? Is there a real difference that you could notice.

Nescafe original instant coffee

I really like coffee. But many times it’s annoying make just a one cup. This nescafe instant coffee is awesome solution. Just warm up water with microwave oven or some other method. Result is always a great cup of coffee. Other benefits are that for some reason its somehow stomach friendly. This could be because it has very little fat. I think they removed it to make it preserve for longer time. Normal coffee goes bad in half a year or so. This keeps well for couple or years.

And its relatively cheap. Because there is no waste. You drink what you make.

Haix desert p9’s

Time for new boots. I opted for haix p9 desert. Very comfortable and reasonably priced shoe for the quality.

image

EDIT: I have now used these boots and they have proven to be very comfortable and usable. They hold water out very well, but the suede style leather sucks moisture easily from wet grass and the surface gets wet easily and takes a long time to dry out.

They are cool to wear and seem to let out moisture quite nicely, of course gore tex or any other water lined shoe cannot breath as well as shoe without any such liner. But for water proof shoes the breathing is very good.

The sole offers very good traction even on wet rocks. And the angle supports is very good. It allows nice front to back movement, but is stiff sideways.

EDIT: winter comments: I have now used these during the winter, and they are ok’ish, but not that great. These are reasonable warm, but longer periods in -10 will make your toes freeze even with double socks. Also the sole is getting hard when it gets cold. When you come inside from the cold, they are very slippery(hard floor is so slippery during the first steps inside, that it’s like walking on wet ice). Also the sole grooves collect lot of snow to the sole grooves and it’s impossible to bang your foots enough to drop it, you have to brush it off. Of course I understand that commenting desert boots winter capability is not that smart, but many people usually wear the same boots also in the colds. So this is what I have found out. If you want winter boots, get some other model, that has sole, that doesn’t harder up in the cold. Also I think that rubbers like car wheels, stay reasonable soft even in freezing temperatures, so I should not be impossible to make a sole that would work in the hot and in the cold. At least better than this sole. Also the hardening of the sole makes the boot feel stiff and it moves against your feet and can easily make blisters, the boot strap tightness is very important when using these in the cold.
