Eberspächer electricity usage

Many people using Webasto or Eberspächer fuel heaters have issues with batteries running out. This is just a short video showing the electricity used when the heater is used.

Car alternator can load the battery with 12Amps. At least Toyota seems to use that current.(Current changes depending on the battery charge level. The Eber heater pulls first 2 minutes 13 or so. After that it uses 6amps. 6amps x 12 volts is around 70Watts. So it uses little more than normal 60Watt bulb, (imagine the heat of the 60Watt lamp and you get the idea of the power level).

So using the heater for 20 minutes and driving for 20 should keep the battery charged enough, issue is that if the battery is very cold, it cannot take charge well before it warms up. But usually same time usage vs driving works, but if you heat the car for 30 minutes and drive for 10, the battery is going to run out.(or you need to charge the battery periodically with external charger.

Toyota actually has Eberspächer heater, but a Webasto clock/timer unit.

Christmas story against taxation?

Luke 2:1-20

New International Version (NIV)

The Birth of Jesus

2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

–The first line discusses the main happening. Everyone should should be taxed, and everyone should go their own town to be taxed.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to himand was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

–Joseph went to his home town, where the line of david was from. He was going to marry Mary who was carrying Jesus. He would not be Joseph’s real son, but would be taxed as such. Nobody is free from taxation.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

–Angels say to shepherds that Savior is born.(Savior out of what)

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

–So the Christmas story is story about taxation, how Joseph’s future wife Mary’s son would be taxed as one of the the david line. Angels declare that he is a savior and Mary thinks about this.

In Luke 3, there is a taxman asking what should he do, and he is warned about unnecessary taxation and soldiers are warned about extorting money.

Later in life Jesus also talks against money lenders and other greed. The Christmas story is interesting as it starts about taxation.

Triumph rear hub maintenance

This is a older video I made about the triumph SSSA hub maintenance. I changed all the bearings to new. Triumph hub should be at least checked and lubed every 20tkm. If it gets dry it may seize during driving and cause rear wheel lockup. Or at least leaves you on the road.

I could add the bearing types, but I can’t recall them at this time. Any good bearing shop can help you, just take the old ones there and they can order the parts. I would guess that good bearing dealer could also change the bearings, just take the whole hub there.

Ctek comfort indicator

Ctek is a Swedish company that makes car battery chargers(see my previous review of CTEK 5.0 polar). It also sells these comfort indicators, that are charging plugs with three led lights,

it shows red blinking led if the battery is below 12.4 volts.

It shows yellow led if the voltage is between 12.4-12.6 volts.

Above that it shows green. Fully charged battery should and could rest at this voltage, but it’s rare. This tricker happy behaviour causes the ‘comfort’ indicator to cause more discomfort than comfort. As in normal winter the comfort indicator shows only red. I think the green should show anywhere above 12.4 volts, yellow from 12.1 – > 12.4, and red below it.

Here’s demonstration installation to Toyota Avensis.

Try to stay warm, it’s kinda cold up here…-JP
